Your open-source directory for finding and getting help after the 2016 Louisiana floods.
LAFloodRecovery.org helps connect flood survivors with effective flood relief and recovery organizations, and volunteers with opportunities to help. We do not personally offer any relief services; we’re here to connect you with the existing services that you’re looking for.
Check here for up-to-date, comprehensive flood recovery resources.
After the floods, everyone sprang into action. In fact, there’s been so much happening on the internet and in the media that it’s been a little overwhelming. How do you know where to go for help–or where your money or time will make the most difference for those in need? This website is here to guide volunteers toward effective ways of helping the flood recovery effort.
It’s also here to provide flood survivors with the help you need right now.
Let’s Work Together.
If you, your team, or someone you know is doing the same thing as LAFloodRecovery.org, please let us know immediately so we can get in touch with them. We’ll happily put our energy towards another effort with the same goal, and we’ll happily partner with other folks who are offering services that we can add to this directory.
Lend Us a Hand :
Volunteer for LAFloodRecovery.org
Everyone on our team is doing this in the time we can spare away from our day jobs, so we could really use some extra hands. We’re looking for some dedicated, competent people (with a sense of humor) to join us for the coming weeks and maybe beyond. Right now we could use help with:
Communications, PR, & Messaging
Fielding requests from media channels, organizations, and volunteers alike can be time consuming and requires the right touch. If you feel you can help us write emails, generate some copy, and/or help us manage our outreach and marketing strategy please email us with an introduction. (We’d gladly accept a pro-bono partnership with a firm or agency).
Outreach & Ambassadors
A digital product can only get us so far – in order for this tool to reach as many people as possible, we need to hit the ground and get the word out to both those offering help and those in need. If you can do some field work for us, GET INVOLVED.
Responsibilities could be: handing out materials, reaching out to organizations, talking to homeowners and folks looking for services, working in New Orleans or other locations to provide materials to volunteer groups, etc. (all ideas welcome).
